Digitalization of high value-added biomass energy recovery processes
Nutai, the Energy Cluster of the Valencia Region, and the Technological Institute of Energy (ITE) are part of this project, which aims at the detailed digitalization of a biomass valorization production process to obtain carbon chains, bioenergy, and activated carbons through pyrolysis and gasification.
The initiative proposes a full-scale digital transformation—from field-level operations to information systems—focused on deploying an analytical tool for evaluating energy efficiency, based on the type and mode of production. It includes an innovative energy traceability system linked to the traceability of input and output materials: biomass and revalorized products in the form of biomaterials and bioenergy, respectively.
In addition, the integration of new technologies adds a layer of information in the form of an energy–productivity digital fingerprint. This enables the innovative process to achieve a high level of digital representation and seamless integration into its productive value chain, whether in existing processes or newly developed ones—an essential factor in managing and promoting new sustainable and innovative production processes within the field of circular economy.
