At NUTAI, we want to share the latest progress of the DRAGONBOT project, an initiative focused on developing an intelligent and automated system for harvesting high-value crops in sustainable greenhouses.
What is DRAGONBOT about?
DRAGONBOT – Intelligent and Automated Harvesting of High-Value Crops in Sustainable Greenhouses – is a collaborative project that started in September 2023 and will conclude in December 2025. The consortium is composed of the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), INDEREN, GREENVISION, and NUTAI.
The project aims to develop a comprehensive solution that combines robotics, computer vision, and autonomous systems to automate the harvesting of pitayas, a delicate fruit with high commercial value.
What is our role at NUTAI?
At NUTAI, we are responsible for developing the computer vision system, which enables the detection of pitayas within the greenhouse environment and precisely guides the robotic system during harvesting. This is crucial to ensure the fruit is picked without damage.
Currently, the project is at a key stage. We already have a functional prototype of the vision system that has shown promising results in controlled environments. We are now beginning integration with other system components such as the gripper, robotic arm, autonomous vehicle (AGV), and control algorithms.
The first integration tests are currently being conducted in the laboratory, and field tests in real cultivation conditions will take place soon.
